Alvaro Sanz
As a documentary director, Álvaro has told human stories that traverse extreme territories, emotional geographies and remote landscapes such as Antarctica, Alaska and the Himalayas, places where he feels connected to the earth and to the camera. But he has also directed television series and documentaries for platforms with themes as diverse as nuclear accidents and the professional future of teenagers.
His way of working is based on his ability to adapt quickly, his constant search for authenticity—both in faces and landscapes—and an almost vital need to be on the move. Yes, he is hyperactive, and he has managed to channel that energy through his stories.
He is also the father of four children, and his active life with them teaches him every day to look again, to question everything and to keep his curiosity alive. They give him back his sense of wonder and honesty, and this inevitably seeps into every image he takes and every story he tells.
He works with the same passion on a big production as he does in a mountain refuge with no mobile phone coverage.
Because in the end, that’s what it’s all about: finding beauty, light and truth.
